Hartsfield-Jackson Prepares For Heavy Labor Day Traffic
Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport officials hosted a press conference Tuesday morning to discuss preparations for Labor Day.
“Labor Day is one of our busier travel periods,” said Andrew Gobeil, the airport’s deputy director of policy and communications. “We expect to screen more than 85,000 people at the TSA screening checkpoint on Friday.”
The airport will not only house a larger crowd, but this crowd could possibly be in costume.
“With college football games and Dragon Con taking place this weekend in Atlanta, Hartsfield-Jackson is expecting not only a larger crowd but a more uniquely dressed crowd than usual,” Gobeil said.
The weather was also discussed at this morning’s meeting.
Gobeil said Hartsfield-Jackson hasn’t experienced too many difficulties due to Hurricane Harvey but has reported a number of cancellations.
Officials continue to monitor the situation by staying in close contact with colleagues in Houston and the federal officials in order to be of assistance.
“These are our colleagues, and in many cases, these are our friends out in Houston, and so our thoughts go out to them,” Gobeil said. “We recognize the challenges they are facing and we stand by ready to assist in any way possible.”
Hurricane Harvey should not impact anyone’s Labor Day travel plans, unless their plans included going to or leaving from Houston.
