Nearly two dozen DeKalb County public schools didn’t have heat in parts of their buildings Thursday, the first day back from the holiday break.

“We had no building that was completely without heat,” said Superintendent Stephen Green. “We just had to move students to certain areas of the building where heat was. Whether that be a hallway or a library or a gym, etc.”

The cold snap that’s swept through and settled in the metro Atlanta area caused several HVAC systems to stop working. Green said school officials were alerted to the problem Wednesday evening and immediately sent crews to start repairs.
