PHOTOS: Peek Inside New ‘Dark Crystal’ Exhibit At Center For Puppetry Arts

The Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta is opening a new exhibit honoring Jim Henson’s “The Dark Crystal” this week. The exhibit displays more than 50 items including sketches, comic books, prototypes and some of the puppets used in the film.

“The Dark Crystal” came out in 1982 and takes place on a planet ruled by the Skeksis, an “evil race of grotesque birdlike lizards,” according to IMDb.com. A character named Jen, who is believed to be the last of his  kind, embarks on a quest to return a magic shard to the Dark Crystal and restore order to his planet.

In this new exhibit, visitors can reflect on the film’s impact and explore how the directors, puppeteers and designers created the magical world of Thra.

Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal: World of Myth and Magic” opens Friday.
