Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris will return to the Atlanta area on Friday to campaign on abortion care access.
The visit is connected to a recent ProPublica report by Kavitha Surana that found that at least two Georgia women died after not receiving legal abortion and medical care in a timely manner. One woman, Amber Nicole Thurman, died after waiting in a hospital bed for 20 hours for doctors to treat complications she suffered after taking abortion medication.
Surana joined “Closer Look” host Rose Scott on Tuesday to discuss her article and why experts say Thurman’s death was preventable. Surana also spoke about the long-term implications of the 2022 Supreme Court Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision to overturn Roe v. Wade abortion protections, which Harris will also speak about on Friday.
