More than 2,000 people attended the American Legion convention in Philadelphia in 1976, the year of the nation’s bicentennial.
When it was all said and done, 182 of those “Legionnaires” had contracted a mysterious illness. Twenty-nine died.

And they began by discussing the likelihood the current outbreak would reach the level of cases experienced in 1976 Philadelphia.
