Morehouse School Of Medicine Receives $26.3 Million Gift From Bloomberg Philanthropies

The president of the Morehouse School of Medicine says she received an abundance of emails and thank-you calls from students and parents after the medical school received its largest scholarship donation to date.

The establishment is one of four historically Black medical schools that received a charitable donation from Bloomberg Philanthropies. Morehouse School of Medicine has already been awarded $26.3 million.

On Friday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice, the first female president and dean of Morehouse School of Medicine, said the gift is needed because medical students are buried in debt that they’ve accumulated over their college careers. (Brenna Beech/WABE)

The donation is part of a $100 million fund that will be paid out of the next four years for Black students who attend the Morehouse school, Charles R. Drew University of Medicine, Howard University College of Medicine and Meharry Medical College.
