Concerns about crime on the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) remain an obstacle to getting some riders to return, but the agency’s police chief says the trains are safe — and getting safer.
During a news conference at the Chamblee rail station on Aug. 21, MARTA Police Chief Scott Kreher said while he can’t promise Atlanta’s transit system will be crime-free, he can “promise that we have worked every day and employed every crime-fighting tool and training to try and mitigate and keep this from happening.”
According to Kreher, overall crime on MARTA is down 8% this year, and categories like aggravated assaults and robberies have fallen by double digits.
