After years of genetic testing, researchers in Georgia have confirmed two new species of bass in the state.

The Bartram’s Bass and Altamaha bass have long been considered synonymous with the redeye bass, but ecologist Bud Freeman said he knew the first time he saw them that something was different.

In the 1980s, Freeman said he worked at a canoe rental business and would drive down river to pick up clients.
