On the “City Lights” series “Speaking of Art,” local artists share insights into their influences, processes, and experiences in town. This edition features Fabian Williams, also known as Occasional Superstar…sometimes. Williams’ work focuses on social and political commentary on life around the United States, the world and especially in Atlanta. He describes his style as “old-school futuristic.”

“I don’t remember getting started in art because I’ve always found a way to use a pen, crayon, or pencil to draw,” says Williams. He does, however, remember having a contest with his brother about who could draw the best portrait of themselves. His stepfather determined that his brother won the contest, and the competitive Williams hasn’t stopped trying to improve since then. His motivations include creating different lines of thought in others and inspiring people to create.
