Atlanta eye surgeon talks about recent trip providing treatment and teaching abroad

Dr. Joon Kim, an Atlanta-based eye care specialist who volunteers with global eye care organization Orbis International, recently participated in a humanitarian trip to Vietnam.

Dr. Kim said she has a deep passion for bridging the healthcare gap and believes everyone deserves access to quality care.

While there, Dr. Kim provided sight-saving surgeries, training and community outreach through Orbis’ Flying Eye Hospital, an airplane fully equipped to provide state-of-the-art eyecare.

Dr. Kim is also an associate professor in Oculoplastics, Orbital and Cosmetic surgery at the Emory Eye Center.

She joined “All Things Considered” to talk about the importance of her work and the global need for adequate eye care.
