The Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus is paying tribute to some of the most influential and iconic “queens” of music with their upcoming concert, “Queens and Queen.” Along with a local rock group, the 100-member chorus will sing favorites made famous by Cher, Elton John, Madonna, and of course, the band, Queen.

Chorus director Don Milton and Yacht Rock Schooner band leader Ganesh Jaya joined Lois Reitzes to discuss the show. Milton began by explaining how they picked their “queens.”

“Our list of ‘queens’ was probably 70 people. We had to pair it down, and it was like choosing your favorite kid at that point, it was so difficult,” Milton said. “The ones we chose had particularly good choral arrangements as well. We’re doing Tina Turner’s ‘Proud Mary,’ Madonna’s ‘Express Yourself,’ Elton John’s ‘Rocket Man,’ those kind of things.”

The performance will be Saturday at Lassiter Concert Hall in Marietta at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.
