Atlanta health tech startup seeks to reduce health inequities for sickle cell patients

An Atlanta company is working to improve care for the hundreds of thousands of patients in this country with sickle cell disease.

Dr. Michael Smith is the CEO of Marti Health, a health services platform coordinating the complex care needed for patients with this genetic blood disorder.

Smith says connecting patients with proper care is crucial because it helps avoid flare-ups that greatly reduce people’s quality of life.

Marti Health was recently named one of 10 tech startups from around the country to participate in United Healthcare’s business accelerator program.

Smith co-founded the company last year with his partner, Richard Desarmes, to reduce avoidable ER visits by treating the symptoms associated with or exacerbated by the disease.
