Volunteers with Atlanta non-profit Concrete Jungle have been scouring metro-Atlanta roadsides and backyards for unwanted produce since 2009 in their mission to reduce food insecurity, but the organization had to take a different approach when most of the food pantries and shelters they serve closed in early 2020.

Nichole Fields-Kyle joined “Morning Edition” to discuss how, during the pandemic, Concrete Jungle started a program to buy underutilized produce in bulk and deliver groceries directly to individuals in need — a program which they plan to expand in 2022.
