Atlanta Parent Reacts To Ban On ‘Divisive Ideologies’

An Atlanta mother who supports the Georgia Board of Education’s resolution to ban “divisive ideologies” from being taught in K-12 public schools, says there’s a lot of confusion about Critical Race Theory in particular and how it’s defined.

Although the resolution never mentions the theory by name, the debate has been largely focused on CRT.

Marie Mower, whose son is in middle school, was a guest on Thursday’s edition of “Closer Look.”

She talked with show host Rose Scott about the research she recently conducted to educate herself about CRT. During the conversation, Mower expressed that even after conducting research, she still hasn’t been able to concretely define CRT but does understand its core beliefs.

“The CRT core belief is that racism has been in our history and it still remains in our American institutions, explained Mower. “Their core beliefs are that where there is racial disparity, there is racism.”

During the conversation, Mower also discussed why she believes it’s important for teachers to teach objectively, highlighting multiple viewpoints in their lessons. She also explained why she thinks school boards should create a curriculum that supports all students.
