Before the crack of dawn in Buckhead, Karen Osborne and Kelly Bryan set out on a multi-mile patrol in Buckhead. They’re looking for something nobody wants to find — dead birds.

The two are volunteers with Birds Georgia’s Project Safe Flight, a program studying migrating bird collisions with buildings.

Osborne, Bryan and their fellow volunteers will scour the metro area in the spring and again in the fall during the peak weeks of the year when millions of birds fly over the city at night.
