Atlantans Assist With Hurricane Harvey Rescue And Recovery

Fifty-five medical professionals from Georgia are on the way to Texas to assist with hurricane rescue efforts. Among them are specialists in incident command, search and rescue efforts, and pediatric and geriatric care.
Terence Ramotar, regional director of American Medical Response, said the paramedics and emergency medical technicians left Stone Mountain early this morning, and are each driving an ambulance.
“Those ambulances also are stocked with enough supplies in case they need to set up a field hospital or anything else. They are all stocked, and ready to go,” Ramotar said.
They should arrive in Texas by early this evening. American Medical Response has a contract with the Federal Emergency Management Agency to respond to medical emergencies.
Meanwhile, Home Depot is working to support communities impacted by the hurricane. Before the storm, company spokesman Matt Harrigan said Home Depot’s Disaster Response Command Center in Vinings moved truckloads of plywood, batteries and generators to its stores near the Texas coast.
“After the storm comes through, we focus on disaster recovery – so that’s a lot of tarps, roofing materials, and cleaning supplies. Generators are always a big item for hurricanes,” Harrigan said.
The Home Depot Foundation announced a commitment of $1 million to support Harvey cleanup and recovery efforts.
