Author Robin Oliveira Brings Paris, Love And Art To Atlanta

Lois Reitzes talks with author Robin Oliveira.

The working title of Robin Oliveira’s recent novel was “I Never Loved You,” but when the time came to decide the official release title, she ended up changing it to “I Always Loved You.”

The contradicting titles are appropriate, as the novel follows the tumultuous romantic relationship between two prolific artists, Mary Cassatt and Edgar Degas, whose relationship was anything but clear.

The novel also paints a vivid picture of Belle Époque Paris, a time when life revolved around appreciation for the visual arts and artists gathered in packed salons to share their creative productions.

“I Always Loved You” is Oliveira’s second novel. Her first, “My name is Mary Sutter,” won the James Jones First Novel Award while it was still a work in progress.

Oliveira will be at the Decatur Library Wednesday evening at 7:15 to talk about her novel, “I Always Loved You,” as a part of a series from Georgia Center for the Book.
