Author Stephen Greenblatt Sees A Link Between Shakespeare, Contemporary Politics
Shakespeare’s work is filled with tyrannical rulers. From King Lear to Richard III to Macbeth, the bard was not afraid to delve into a tyrant’s rise to power.
Stephen Greenblatt, professor of humanities at Harvard University, has written a book called “Tyrant: Shakespeare on Politics.” He will speak on the subject at Georgia State University Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
Greenblatt spoke with “City Lights” last week from the radio station at Harvard. He talked about whether his book was a commentary on contemporary politics.
