A fearless adventurer on the banjo, 18-time Grammy winner Béla Fleck, is celebrating George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue,” one of American music’s best-loved works and adventurous in its own time.
Fleck recorded “Rhapsody in Blue” in three new variations on his 2024 album of the same name.
“The great thing about studying Gershwin is you find out that ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ has been played so many ways, it’s been rearranged and rearranged, so it’s allowed,” said Fleck.
He’ll join guest conductor Jeff Tyzik and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra as soloist in a live performance of the piece at Symphony Hall on June 11, presented by Neraneneh.
Fleck joined “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes ahead of his Atlanta performance.
