The irrepressible melody and dazzle of Italian music is on full display in Atlanta Symphony concerts May 1 and May 3. Guest conductor Jader Bignamini will be on the podium to lead the orchestra in works by Bottesini and Respighi.

The young Italian virtuoso Giuseppe Gibboni will be the soloist in Paganini’s Violin Concerto No. 1. Bignamini is the acclaimed music director of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and his specialties include opera as well as jazz and blues.

He joined “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes to discuss the evening’s repertoire.

“The architecture of this kind of music is incredible, it is perfect,” said Bignamini.
