According to a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2021 and 2022, people ages 75 and older had the highest suicide rate among all age groups. The data also reveals that the rate was largely driven by males.

When it comes to identifying someone who might be experiencing suicidal ideation, Amanda Krisher, the associate director of behavioral health at the National Council on Aging, says it’s important to listen and to ask questions because you could be someone’s lifeline.

For “Closer Look’s” National Suicide Prevention and Awareness series, host Rose Scott talked with Krisher about suicide awareness and prevention among older adults.
