Clayton State University’s mission includes social mobility. The Morrow, Georgia-based institution aims to transform the lives of its students through service, teaching and scholarship. As the university continues to build on that mission, it’s gearing up to host its second Social Mobility Summit.

The event will be held on Wednesday. Its lineup includes panels, workshops and discussions that will explore key factors influencing social mobility — and how higher education can be a powerful driver of change.

On Tuesday’s edition of ‘Closer Look,” show host Rose Scott talks with Dr. Mahnaz Charania, the chief transformation officer at The New Teacher Project, and Jada Mitchell, the executive director of student success at Clayton State University. They discuss the event in more detail and explain why they believe it’s essential to ensure that all students have social capital, strong networks and relationships.
