When the coronavirus pandemic really took hold last spring, ‘flattening the curve’ meant keeping sick people home. Early government aid included money for employers to fund that sick leave.

But even as many safety-net programs set to expire on Dec. 31 saw a renewal, such COVID-related leave payments did not.

That’s created some confusion, according to Rhian Sharp, president and CEO of Sharp Medical Recruiting in Atlanta.

Sharp told WABE’s “All Things Considered” host Jim Burress she’s received a few calls from employees asking if their employers are required to keep providing COVID-related paid leave. That answer is “no,” but to better understand why you have to be comfortable with an “alphabet soup” of sorts.
