According to the latest data from AAA, gas prices in the Peach State are averaging close to $4 per gallon. In addition, a new report from the Georgia Institute of Technology also suggests those high prices aren’t going away anytime soon amid the global energy crisis, and that the ripple effects extend far beyond travel.

This all comes as a 2026 Deloitte summer travel survey shows vacation plans are down amongst all income levels, and travel is at its lowest among consumers since 2022.

For a call-in show on Thursday’s edition of “Closer Look,” host Rose Scott was joined by Georgia Tech professors Daniel Matisoff from the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School of Public Policy and Bobby Harris from the School of Economics. They discussed the health of the economy and which indicators are affecting Georgians’ summer travel plans. They also provided feedback on listener comments.
