Here’s how Adeena Sussman explains “Shabbat,” the title of her new cookbook, “Shabbat is the Jewish day of rest that begins just before sundown every Friday and ends nearly 25 hours later.

It’s the Jewish calendar’s most spectacular day of the week when work is cast aside and replaced by spiritual tranquility.” Sussman describes cooking for Shabbat as “the North Star of her kitchen identity.”

In this interview, the author joined “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes to talk more about the recipes and rituals in Shabbat.

“One of the main ideas behind Shabbat is that there is a distinction between the week and the weekend,” Sussman reflected.
