Former Chief Legal Officer For Georgia Department Of Public Health Says She Was Unlawfully Fired

On Wednesday’s edition of “Closer Look” Atlanta Journal-Constitution investigative reporter Alan Judd discusses his latest article that focuses on the termination of a former state government attorney.

Judd told show host Rose Scott that Jennifer Dalton was hired as the chief legal officer with the Georgia Department of Public Health and a big part of her role was to review contracts.

Six months after Dalton took on a new role, she claims she was fired for questioning “potential violations of state and federal law,” by the agency and its commissioner Dr. Kathleeen Toomey.

In a letter, Dalton claims she raised questioned about a $14 million, no-bid contract that was awarded to a company to schedule COVID-19 vaccinations. Dalton claims the company had personal ties to Toomey.

Under Georgia’s whistleblower protection law, Dalton is currently seeking $800 thousand in lost compensation and retirement benefits.

During the conversation, Judd also talked about receiving 15,000 emails that documented how Gov. Brian Kemp handled the COVID-19 pandemic and ignored the advice of health experts.
