International students in Georgia could see limits to the amount of time they can stay in the U.S. with F-1 visas.

A proposed rule from the Department of Homeland Security would cap foreign student visas at four years. Currently, international students with F-1 visas are allowed to stay for an amount of time called the “duration of status,” which gives them enough time to complete their degree programs.

If the rule becomes final, students with programs lasting longer than four years would have to apply for an extension.
