Action Pact is one of several Head Start agencies affected by the federal government shutdown in Georgia. More than 500 children and their families in southeast Georgia rely on Action Pact for free food, early educational services and employment resources. However, due to the halt in federal funds, executive director Diane Rogers says they’ll have to stop providing that community support starting Monday, Nov. 3.

WABE reported earlier this week about how the Head Start program would be impacted. It includes close to 200 employees who will also be furloughed, and 15 Action Pact locations will be forced to suspend operations.

Rogers spoke to “Closer Look” about how devastating this will be for those in need and how she’s working with Georgia’s Democratic U.S. Sens. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff to recover some financial assistance.
