When “Girlfight” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2000, it reshaped how audiences viewed women in sports films and introduced Michelle Rodriguez in a breakout role. The film marked Karyn Kusama’s directorial debut and won both the Grand Jury Prize and the Directing Award at Sundance, establishing her as one of independent cinema’s most distinctive voices.
