Legally blind 2024 Georgia State graduate dreams of becoming a history teacher

James McMahon disliked history as a kid. He says he had a learning disability and struggled with writing things in chronological order.

But fast-forward to now, the legally blind history major is just days away from graduating with his second bachelor’s degree in history from Georgia State University.  

For “Closer Look’s” annual graduation series, the class of 2024 graduate talks about the obstacles he faced while navigating his academic journey and the inspiration that led him on a path to pursue a career as a history teacher.
