A ‘Massive’ TV, Film Complex Planned For Covington

Covington and Newton County officials are trying to lure a 165-acre development that, according to this week’s Atlanta Business Chronicle, could include a film, television, music and gaming complex. Officials are working on an incentive package to land the development, which could cost hundreds of millions to build out in coming years. Officials are also conducting engineering studies and preparing to submit the project to state planners as a Development of Regional Impact, which includes large-scale projects.

The new project could include sound stages and other film and television production infrastructure, along with hotels and commercial development, said Dave Bernd, vice president of economic development for the Covington/Newton Economic Development Authority. Bernd would not disclose the exact site.

Architect KPS Group Inc. is the master planner. The development group behind the project has put up cash for the property and continues to tweak the plans, but its identity remains undisclosed. Its principals are headquartered in Atlanta, Bernd said.

Construction could start this September or October, Bernd said.
