WABE Arts spotlights the 19th year of “Capturing the Spirit of Oakland” and, ahead of ONE Musicfest 2025,  a conversation with Grammy Award-winning artist Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter of The Roots. 

Oakland Cemetery’s after-dark theater event returns through Oct. 26, and The Roots’ Black Thought talks creative discipline and Atlanta inspiration.

Each October, Atlanta’s historic Oakland Cemetery transforms into a lantern-lit stage for storytelling, theater and local history. Now in its 19th year, “Capturing the Spirit of Oakland” invites visitors to explore the Victorian grounds by night as actors bring the city’s past to life.
