Lake Lanier, Atlanta’s water source, was within 1 foot of its all-time record Monday afternoon.

With days of rain in the forecast, the reservoir could top its current record, which was first set in 1964.

WABE’s “All Things Considered” host Jim Burress spoke with Jennifer Flowers, executive director of the Lake Lanier Association, about the flooding.

Lake Lanier, a reservoir northeast of Atlanta, generates hydropower as its water is released from a dam into the Chattahoochee River. More than 6 million people depend on water from the reservoir.
