President Donald Trump’s increased deployment of Immigration and Customs Enforcement in many states has led to a spike in the number of people in immigration detention centers, including at Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, Georgia.

WABE immigration reporter Emily Wu Pearson spent time in the area speaking to residents, detainees and those who work with them about the impact the detention center has on those held within its confines, as well as the local community.

The series looks at the county’s history and economics, goes inside immigration court and meets the individuals who are all connected to Stewart, one way or another.
