This year marks the 10th anniversary of the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, an occasion which happens to coincide with the 70th anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education – the milestone case in which schools finally were officially desegregated in the United States.

Though the work of advancing the rights and opportunities of Black Americans continues, a celebration is in order for the NCCHR, with the 2024 “Power to Inspire” fundraiser showcasing a premiere performance of the new play by Nikki Toombs, “Courageous Steps: Bridging the Divide for Equality.”

Comedian and former “Daily Show” correspondent Roy Wood, Jr., will host the event on April 17 at the Eastern.

In this interview, Wood, Jr., joined “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes to talk more about the special event and his latest exciting projects as one of the funniest voices in comedy.
