TUCKER, Ga. — DeKalb County Schools has begun holding public input sessions on the latest proposal for closing schools, and hundreds of frustrated, angry parents showed up at Lakeside High on March 23.
DeKalb County Schools’ redistricting and school closure process is called the Student Assignment Project. The district is making these major changes to become more financially efficient amid declining student enrollment nationwide. Currently, the district has around 90,000 students and 110,000 seats.
The second proposal was announced on March 20. It featured additions to the closure list, potential modernization projects and a plan to turn multiple high schools into sixth- through 12th-grade schools. To see a list of all the proposed changes, click here.
