There’s A New Mayor In Town: Motley Broom Is College Park’s First Female, African American Mayor

Mayor Bianca Motley Broom joins “Closer Look” on Friday’s edition of the program to reflect upon her first six months in office.

College Park Mayor Bianca Motley Broom says she doesn’t want to stay in her office all day.

“I want people to see me,” she said on her 15th day in office outside College Park’s City Hall.

“I want people to know that I’m accessible because I never want to lose that. We’re not a particularly large city, so we shouldn’t be hiding behind walls.”

Motley Broom is the first female and first African American to lead this city in its 130-year history.

The former magistrate judge defeated six-term former Mayor Jack Longino in a December runoff election.

And as more people across the Atlanta area are starting to eye College Park because of its affordability, proximity and accessibility, Motley Broom spoke about remembering the city’s legacy residents. She has lived in College Park since 2008.
