The full force of Georgia’s film industry will rally in southwest Atlanta Tuesday night at the local Teamsters Union office near the Lakewood Amphitheater in South Atlanta.

It’s the latest picket for workers and union leaders with SAG-AFTRA and the Writers Guild of America amid an ongoing strike with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.

The Writers Guild has been on strike since May, when contracts expired and demands for higher pay and streaming residuals weren’t met. Soon after, in June, SAG-AFTRA voted to join writers on the picket line.

SAG-AFTRA Atlanta local President Eric Goins is part of the negotiating committee with Hollywood AMPTP moguls; he’s spent weeks at the table trying to negotiate a contract on fair compensation, protection against the use of artificial intelligence and streaming residuals.

Goins sat down with WABE’s “Morning Edition” to discuss what’s at stake for Georgia’s film industry and what he’s hearing from workers on the ground.

WABE has reached out to the AMPTP and did not receive a response prior to airtime.

The latest press release from AMPTP called the labor unions’ rhetoric “unfortunate.” Members said in a statement that the strike has hurt thousands of people in the industry, and AMPTP’s only playbook is getting people back to work.
