The former president of Morris Brown College announced his termination on Monday, saying the institution’s Board of Trustees left him without a specific cause for their decision.

Dr. Kevin E. James revealed his departure from the Atlanta-based HBCU after seven years in a Facebook post critical of the board’s “deeply concerning” actions. He also notes that the dismissal comes after a successful annual evaluation completion and consistently strong performance reviews.

“Research and my lived experience demonstrate that many HBCUs have struggled with board overreach and interference,” he wrote. “Unfortunately, those dynamics are evident in this situation.”
