An Atlanta youth addiction treatment program is expanding its capacity to help more young people, in part with funding from Georgia’s Opioid Crisis Abatement Trust.

The Emory Addiction Center now accepts patients affected by substance use as young as age 12, down from 13 years old. The center provides medication-assisted treatment, one-on-one counseling, group counseling and other other services for young people. It’s also offering more services free of charge regardless of insurance, including telehealth therapy appointments.

Advocates say the additional services are needed. Georgia ranks 46 in access to mental health care, according to a report from Mental Health America.
