Beginning on Feb. 15, the Atlanta Falcons will host the inaugural Atlanta Falcons Girls Flag Football Week, a celebration of the “remarkable expansion” of the sport across Georgia.
The weeklong event will bring the state’s top high school girls’ flag football athletes to the IBM Performance Field in Flowery Branch for training.
How long has girls flag football been played in Georgia schools?
Girls flag football began as a pilot program at Gwinnett County’s 19 high schools in 2018, with the support of the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation and the Falcons. It has grown to over 305 high schools statewide, with roughly 8,500 girls expected to participate in the sport during the fall 2026 season.
