Cobb Homeowners React to Possible Stormwater Utility Fee

In the midst of almost daily rain, the Cobb County’s commission chair says the county needs money for stormwater projects. The commission will consider charging property owners a stormwater utility fee which some have labeled a rain tax. Aleck Ragsdale gets reaction from Cobb homeowners.

60 year old Robin Hill says she shouldn’t have to pay a separate charge for county stormwater projects.

“Wherever I’ve lived, I’ve made the assumption that the stormwater is taken care of and that’s part of what you pay for. So to say that you’re going to pay an additional fee,

seems like something that I would’ve already have been expecting them to be taking care of”.

It’s unclear what the fee will be. But right now, 62 year old Ken Stepp says living in Cobb is cheaper than nearby counties. He wouldn’t mind having to pay a new fee.

“Nobody likes extra taxes, but you gotta do what you gotta do, so you live where you live and you pay what you pay”.

The commission is scheduled to vote on the proposed fee in the fall.
