Domestic violence, also known as intimate partner violence, is a public health threat in Georgia and nationwide.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it’s estimated that 1 in 4 women and nearly 1 in 10 men have experienced contact sexual violence, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner.

In response to the crisis, there are new efforts to raise awareness, increase access to resources and combat domestic and dating violence.

On Thursday’s edition of “Closer Look,” show host Rose Scott talks with Shawndell Dawson, the director of the Office of Family Violence Prevention and Services.

Dawson discusses the goal of the new office and the Biden-Harris administration’s commitment to preventing and combating domestic violence.

Scott then talks with Katha D. Blackwell, the CEO of  Partnership Against Domestic Violence, about the latest statistics in Georgia and information and resources to combat intimate partner violence.
