Drought In Georgia Keeps Improving, But It’s Not Gone Yet

Sorry about the rained out Memorial Day barbecues earlier this week, but there’s some good news related to the rain.

Most metro Atlanta counties are not experiencing any drought conditions at this point, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.

There is still “severe drought” around Lake Lanier, which supplies most of Atlanta’s water. The lake is more than six feet below full, and could take a long time to fill back up. And there’s still a severe drought in South Georgia, including around the Okefenokee Swamp, where the West Mims fire is burning.

Water use restrictions remain in place for all of Atlanta.
