Cecilia Marquez has been researching Southern Latino history for more than a decade. The assistant professor of history at Duke University is the author of “Making the Latino South: A History of Racial Formation.”
The book dives into the deep diversity of the Latino community and explains the Latino experience in the South. In the book, Marquez explores the migration of Latinos from places like California and several Midwest and northern states, to places like Georgia, South Carolina and Mississippi. This move occurred primarily during the 1940s to the early 2000s for a better quality of life and economic opportunities.
On Tuesday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Professor Marquez talks with host Rose Scott about researching information and conducting interviews for the book.
