Family of detained Georgia journalist Mario Guevara hopes petition can help bring him home

The family of Mario Guevara, an independent Spanish-language reporter who has been held in ICE detention for more than a month, is asking supporters to sign a petition asking the federal government for his release.

The family of a Georgia journalist detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement is circulating a petition asking the federal government to release the man from detention.

Mario Guevara is an independent Spanish-language reporter who was arrested on June 14 while covering a protest in DeKalb County. Although all charges were dropped, Guevara has been held in jails, the federal prison in Atlanta, and the Folkston ICE Processing Center since his arrest.

“I’m begging for them to do the right thing and to release my dad,” said his 27-year-old daughter, Katherine Guevara. “It’s been enough. This has been a lot and there’s no reason for them to keep him in there any longer.”
