New York Times–bestselling author Keith Boykin says racism is a distraction for Black and White people.

The TV and film producer and former CNN political commentator says it creates division, which keeps people from fighting against the real enemy.

Boykin builds on the topic in his new book, “Why Does Everything Have to Be About Race? 25 Arguments That Won’t Go Away.”

In the book, he breaks down what he calls 25 of the most widespread deceptions about race, such as “Critical Race Theory causes children to hate one another” or “affirmative action is reverse discrimination.”

On Wednesday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Boykin discussed what led him to write the book, his process in writing it and why he believes people must reframe racial arguments that are centered in white belief systems.
