But county officials said that might not be the case by the end of the fiscal year on Dec. 31.

Fulton is still in the process of collecting property taxes. This summer, spikes in property assessments and a decision to freeze the assessments at last year’s values delayed tax bills going out to homeowners.

Fulton Vice Chairman Bob Ellis said the $192.3 million shortfall is because people are still sending in payments.

“It’s possible that we could end up with no deficit whatsoever or a very small one,” Ellis said. “Our tax collections are coming in very strongly. We’re probably approaching around 60 percent collections, and that number is rapidly growing.”

Fulton commissioners are scheduled to vote on the spending plan in January.
