Michelangelo never made it to the New World, but an exhibition of life-size reproductions brings his works from the Sistine Chapel to Atlanta. At the Westside Cultural Arts Center, patrons can view Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel up close and at eye level.

Lois Reitzes spoke with Dr. James Chappuis, the owner and founder of the Westside Cultural Arts Center, about the immersive exhibition.

“The reproductions are just amazing. They are at eye-level. And then each of the 34 pieces has multi-lingual wall texts and audio guides,” Chappuis said. “So not only are you seeing these up close and personal, but you get a history lesson along the way which I found very exciting. The other thing that’s nice is that people are able to take pictures. And so a number of visitors are taking pictures of themselves and taking pictures of the art. I think that adds another interesting dimension.”

Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel is at the Westside Cultural Arts Center in Atlanta through May 23.
