When pianist and music educator Lara Downes joins “City Lights,” she illustrates a bridge between the historic legacies of European classical music, the impact of American music, and the great living composers around the globe.

She also hosts the series “Amplify with Lara Downes,” with interviews and performances that bring diverse voices to classical music center stage.

Lara Downes’ newest album, “Love at Last,” was released on Earth Day, and it carries her message of hope for humanity amid times of darkness.

In this interview, “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes speaks with Lara Downes about the new album.

“The way that kids are phrasing those intentions may be different, but they are still stepping up to work for the same things that we’ve worked for generation after generation,” Downes said.
